catapult reflection
- What was the project about? Why did we do this project? What mathematics (Ms. Vee’s class) and design (Mr. Sevilla’s class) concepts were applied? This project is about the design process and the mathematics of a catapult. We did this project because we needed to learn the importance of the design process and the mathematics of the design. In math we studied the time, distance, and force. In art we studied the design and thinking process. We looked at the process of design and we actually designed our own shoes and backpacks. I enjoyed it.
- Describe the prototyping process. Does your final catapult resemble the prototype? Why or why not? The prototyping process was a huge debate. We eventually came up with an idea. Our final catapult actually did not resemble the prototype. We came up with a totally different idea. We did more of a crossbow catapult,
- What were some last minute adjustments you had to make to your catapults prior to LAUNCH DAY? The only adjustment we had to make on launch day, was we had to paint it black to make the catapult look threatening.
- This question is pertaining to your group research: when making calculations, what were some of your limitations? What were some things you “ignored” for the sake of simplicity? We had to measure the distance the ball would go, so instead of meaning the distance with measuring tape, we estimated the measurement.
- What were some of successes you experienced while working on this project? One of the successes go our catapult was that it actually worked. The tension of the rope was strong enough to shoot the ball forward.
- What were some challenges you experienced while working on this project? The challenge for our gout was getting along. It was really hard go decide what we wanted our catapult to do and look like, because everybody had there own strong opinion.
